Roland Fryer Jr. lived in poverty as a boy, growing up amidst the drug trade.
"As a kid, I didn't like the police at all… I grew up on one side of the story," he once stated.
As a trained economist he confronted his emotional reaction to the death of Michael Brown and felt driven to understand the issue, spending years compiling and analyzing data and even completing some introductory police academy training and ride-alongs.
What he found is that the police are usually very restrained in their use of force, that whites are slightly more likely to be killed in police interactions than non-whites, that all trends of police killings and use-of-force incidents were trending downwards.
How many of these conclusions have you heard discussed or even acknowledged in the media?
