Apparently no one on Substack is interested in how to get innocent people out of war zones.

But we're interested in pretty much everything else.

Well your question is far too general. Let them walk. Arrange buses. Innocent people usually try to remove themselves from war zones, barring the slow and the stubborn and the unfortunate.

If you're talking about Gaza then there is absolutely no way to "get innocent people out" because (1) the two countries which share a border with Gaza long ago imposed a rational and legal quarantine against the flow of goods and people over the border. They did this because a terrorist organization (a stated enemy of both countries) had taken control and was actively and unashamedly using every resource and revenue source it could to fund and execute war crimes AND (2) that organization uses those innocent people as cover and collateral to protect and insulate their armaments factories and transit tunnels and operations centers. Just as Hamas will never le a vibrant opposition movement spring up in Gaza they will never let their prisoners and human shields leave.

While you're asking your deep and proving questions, here are a few more: How can we insure immediate gender and sexual freedom among the residents of the Gaza strip? How can we make sure that every man and woman in Gaza ends up a Nobel prize recipient? How can we stop death and suffering across the globe, now and forever?

Getting people into and out of places is easy. Rescuing hostages is incredibly difficult and everyone in Gaza who isn't a fighter or a supporter is a hostage now. They will suffer terribly. Perhaps the next generation will emerge chastened and more committed to forgiveness and development than vengeance and honor, but I doubt it.

Hi James,

Yes, the point of my question is to start an investigation, not to provide all the perfect answers, which I surely don't have. So we take the general, and start refining it in to the more specific.

Here's a start in that direction. The two countries you reference, Egypt and Israel, have received many billions of dollars from the U.S. over many years. Israel is the largest recipient of U.S. foreign aid since WWII, if I remember correctly. We can leverage those ongoing funds to obtain the release of women and children at least. The men are obviously more complicated.

And you reference Hamas not letting the women and children leave. Would Hamas like to be fighting U.S. forces too, as well as Israeli forces? So we might try saying, "Give us all the women and children who want to leave, or we'll give you the U.S. Marines and whatever else is needed."

Or maybe something else. Maybe there is a better plan. That could very well be. So let's find out together.

BTW, I'm saying this to everybody on Substack, and not just you. I look forward to talking with you about all kinds of things.

This is an excellent analysis. There is obviously much more to look at. I deal with some of that here: https://vonwriting.substack.com/p/the-hard-bigotry-of-hyerbolic-expectations
