Sadly even the otherwise good shows feel the need to cater to the ideologies who sign their checks. Anymore it’s become something of a game to see how long a show goes before a mixed race couple makes an appearance, or a character happens to be a minority despite all logic. (19th century Russian elites anyone? (Gentleman in Moscow). I had to look it up, and no, a black Russian elite in 1870 would have been extremely unlikely. Yet there he is.) It always takes me right out of the story because I immediately see the ideology being shoved at me.
It has become parodical by now. It seems fairly obvious that captured institutions cannot, in many cases, reform themselves. They will have to die and be replaced. That process has already begun though. There are still good creatives and good writers out there-although not as many as there once were.
